‘Wind Song’ is very close to being completed. Everyday there is something new to accomplish and we keep pushing forth. Our completion date is set for September 9th, 2013. After that, we will hit the film festival circuit and get the film out there. It has been a long haul of writing, pre-production, production and post-production. Film festivals will be the last big push forward. Then ‘Wind Song’ will hopefully take on a life of it’s own. I hope for people to see it and be moved by it. That is the most important thing to me. I want my style of filmmaking to leave a mark, so people will say, “What else are you working on? I’d like to get involved.” I think that when I hear that, I will know that I have found my path. And onward I will go.
Making a movie is one of the most difficult things I have ever done. I’m so thankful for my co-writer/director Christine and the rest of the people who have helped along the way. I’ve never been this close to everything involved in a larger production before. Aside from brainstorming, writing the script and acting, I’ve learned to do everything else including; casting, hiring crew, coordinating travel, lodging, locations, coordinating craft services, making shooting schedules, contracts, directing, working with the post-production team (editing, sound, music, color, effects, etc.) , and the big one – finding funding to make the film happen. It has been quite the mountain to climb. But reaching the top feels so great! The best part is that I’m confident that we’ve made not only a film, but a really fricken good film. A film with meaning.
There are parts of the journey I would like to forget, but there are parts of the journey I will never forget. There are parts of the journey that have helped shape me not only as a filmmaker, but as a person. I’ve learned so much about my own strengths and weaknesses, and where my passions lie. It’s true that one is always learning. No one can ever know everything there is to know about anything. It is a beautiful thing to find a place in your life where you feel like you have a purpose. As hard as this chosen path may be, there is no other job on the planet I would rather fight for and stress out about.
After Wind Song is wrapped, the festivals have been submitted to, and my work is done, I’m going to take a little break. I’m going to look back on the experience and think about it. Truly think about it. It’s funny because after all the stress is over, I’ll probably be ready to start making another movie. There’s something about the process that is so exhilarating. It’s like that little creative soul in me is finally getting a chance to show herself. To show the world what I’m made of. My heart and soul are ready to climb every mountain, to every peak and back again. Not because I want to, because I have to.
Someday the world will know who I am, and I will work the rest of my life to inspire others to show the world who they are. It’s not easy, it takes hard work and commitment. But when you find a path, and you know you just can’t choose any other, that is when it’s real… you’ve found a way to your true self and your purpose. Only when you find your true self, can you show the rest of the world who you are.
